Jason hope you are having a good vacation, the water is shut off and the gardens need water. We had a trace of rain the last few days but other than that it is dry. Mary came up and we got a lot of paper soaking and a couple of batches of mud in the wall and we pointed.
The Lady slippers are out and looking beautiful.

As you can see the bucket and the scaffold are integral parts of the Cord Wood program. It takes more time to point than to put the papercrete
, wood shavings and the logs in place. The pointing is at times almost ZEN like but it can get old when you are pointing at the floor level or overhead. We got the first of the window boxes in to a wall today and I think we are confident as to the best way to square up and place them, would you believe it is exactly like the video from Rob Roy.

Missed yesterday had to go for emergency dentistry. Back at it today and what a beautiful day it is, we cleaned up and got ready for a lumber yard delivery. Built one of the window boxes and set up the fifth wall to start. I am going to use a new box for the inside of the corners. Two 2 x 4 spaced out and faced with a 2 x 6 that can be removed later for access to put in electric etc. Eventually I am planning to replace the 2 x 6 with a finished 1 x 6 oak.

Jim came up we got a lot done we closed up the second and third wall, plus we finished the blue flower bottle in the fourth wall. It was a lot of pointing and it took a little longer than we planned on but it looks really good. We really need rain but it has been nice not sliding around in the clay.

Mary decided it would be a nice way to end her vacation, working on the bottle wall in our master bedroom. We took it easy and enjoyed the weather we only mixed two batches of the paper enhanced mortar. Even taking it easy it takes quite a bit of time to point especially around the bottles but the end result will be worth it. It is hard to tell but the flower is ready to placed on the stem, from the outside it is very hard to notice the flower but inside the colors just make it pop out.

The whole family came up this weekend to help. The first picture shows the kids and Mary tearing paper to soak for pulping. The first batch of mortar was way to wet to add on to, so we mixed another batch and started on the fourth wall
. By the end of the day we had a nice amount of walls done and it was another good day. wall 1 done wall 2 over half complete wall3 one third done and wall 4 20 inches high.

We started the day with Jason from Woodland Improvements delivering 20 cubic yards of sawdust and planer shavings for the wall insulation. that is me sitting in the big dump! It turned out to be a really good day Mary cooked up a whole chicken in the dutch oven on the BBQ and it was fantastic. Then to top everything off we finished the FIRST WALL.

Yes world that would be Melissa (daughter) Mary (wife) Me (hubby) all pointing at the same time who would have thought. It is a little hard to see but we snuck a couple of glass blocks into the wall I am working on. Jim is reaching as high as he can we will have to put up scaffold tomorrow. It is going slowly but it most certainly going, another good day.

We started the day getting help from the crew at ECM publishing, putting a 1500 to 2000 lb bail of news print on the trailer to hall up to the house. Initially the staff were a little skeptical about selling me a bail of newspaper scrap but I think they are intrigued by the whole idea, Thanks to the staff at ECM Publishing. Then there was the long ride up to the land with the trailer at it's weight limit. On the way up there we had decided on how to get the bail off of the trailer and so we got the log chain out and fired up the back hoe hooked on to the loader bucket and up it went. Then the rest of the story we pulled the trailer out from under and tried to move the bail a little and it landed nicely exactly where it wanted to.
Then we tore the paper up and started soaking it in the tub. Jake Jim and I then got at the cord wood it was a good day.
