I just couldn't
Oh No I couldn't just build a rectangular box Oh No not me I had to build a twenty sided house with a porch that is a multigon. Any way moving on We that is Jim and I put the rafters up on the porch and tied in to the house roof oh my goodness, the porch roof (a multigon) is meeting the house roof (a multigon) and if there is any common angle any where up there I didn't seem to find it. Oh well it is framed in and the inspector is coming tomorrow and I am hoping there are no problems that cant be overcome.

With interest
The roof is going pretty good as you can see I need to move up onto the main roof with the rafters tomorrow. We have a few areas that we need to deal with the main one is the smooth transition from the porch roof to the main roof and adding the barge rafters to the front gabel. I am hopeful the sun will shine tomorrow and we can get a lot done.

Compound it ? Confound it !
The day started out as a lot of them seem to these days, Jim and I stopped by Timberland Improvements to pick out some boards for the porch and Jason was very happy to help and he delivered them to the the site as an added benefit. The first picture is showing me mortising for the ridge beam to sit in. The second picture is setting the post and lagging it in with a impact wrench. The third picture is of Jim on the roof helping set the ridge beam in. And then the rest of the story the compound angles. The walls of the porch go out at 9 degrees and then it gets tricky each rafter length is unique, and that does not include the shorter length increases the pitch of the roof a little with each rafter. see the last picture. OH WELL WHAT THE HECK.

The last of the BIG Timbers
We finished gluing up all of the sections of the window and door boxes on Thursday. This morning we loaded all of the panels up and headed north, last night Jason Frank (Woodland Improvements) called to say that he had cut the last six by eight oak timbers for the porch and he would deliver them Friday morning . Jason beat us up there this morning he dropped by about 6:30 and we missed him by a lot. Jim and I set the verticals and squared and braced them. Before the rain started we actually got two of the 6" x 8" by 12' oak timbers cut for placement next time up. It looks like the weekend is going to be a wet one.

A lot of little things
I know it has been a while but I have been keeping busy believe me. First I cut the last of the oak posts for the porch, see the attached picture. Second when it was time to cut these posts Jim was up helping and I decided to remeasure the already erected post again and low and behold the last two posts I cut in the assembly of wood henge were cut two inches shorter than all of the others. OK I know I am a dupa! Any way Jim helped me jack it up and reset it. Next oh yeah I have to build the boxes that the windows and the doors will eventually will sit in they are 18 inches deep and use a lot of wood we had to biscuit joint boards together to make the depth. So now everyone is up to date , oops not quite the porch needed some more oak beams and Jason Frank from Woodland Improvements cut them for me today, we may get the porch going this weekend.

ROOFING ROOFING ROOFING KEEP THOSE SHINGLES COMING, RAW KNEES! sung to the tune from the old Raw hide TV show. well the roof is as far as I can get it without framing the porch. Jim and Jason have both helped this last week and I really really appreciate it. It is Easter weekend and I am looking forward to a couple days without roofing, roofing.

If a tree falls in the woods...
Hello everyone. This is Anthony. I've hi-jacked my Dad's blog for one post because I was forwarded this awesome picture. Take a look at what this person decided to do with a stack of cord-wood. Amazing!
