Up on the roof top
Roofing is not very exciting. Ed came up on Saturday and helped put the drip edge on and we also shingled one of the twenty panels. Today is Monday the 30Th of march and I went up alone and I got two more panels shingled. I left the last 3 feet of the middle panel open and I will put a roof vent in every other panel when I am done.

The crown or was it a bit thorny
Picked up ridge cap for the second story applied that then we anchored the cupola. shingeling the cupola was a little bit of a trial a lot of very small pieces. I think it looks good.

Frost on the roof top
It started out a little cold but we were able to begin on the east side of the house where the frost had already melted. It looks good, tomorrow I will pick up ridge cap and finish the 2nd story. I have to comment the backs of the thighs, knees and knuckles are beat up by roofing.

A jaunty angled cap
The weather is holding near perfect to work outside again. Jim came up today and we put the drip edge on the 2ND story and started shingling. I have to say before you get all upset with the cupola angle I found a good spot to hold it in place and put a quick screw in, it is supposed to be really windy tomorrow. On the way up today the cupola just about flew out of the trailer, oops! who would have figured it weighs about 40 lbs. Today we have one of the ten 2ND story panels done and the rest of them are 6 courses high.

The size is deceptive
The three pallets of shingles don't look like a lot until you have to unload them from a boom truck fork lift. I know this is a heck of a lot better than carrying them up the ladder, but the 30 square is still a lot of weight. Moving on, Milaca Building center was kind enough to deliver them before the frost broke. When I got up to the land today I thought there was a chance that I had maybe a couple of days before nobody will be able to get in to the house with a heavy truck for 6 weeks. I also moved some more of the unsplit logs in under the roof before the rain comes. After that I cleaned the site and made plans for the next week.

I took a couple days off
I helped my brother build a new water wheel for his pond. We got the white oak from Jason frank (woodland improvements). I have to admit it is quite heavy but we have it very well balanced so it works and white oak is very beautiful. Anthony what do you think of that.

Blowing in the Windowed
The windows are in the 2ND floor, it looks great. Anthony came along again today and we or I should say He put them in lickety split. We also took the time to stack the last of the split wood in the house. Thanks Anthony.

I thought I was! **** wrong
I thought I was stiff yesterday after splitting wood, holy cow. I did not get all of the wood under the roof but I gave it my best. Clay is the devil it is slippery as all get out when the frost is going out. Right now I am so stiff I need to post this and sit in the recliner getting old sucks.

Oh my aching back
My brother Jason volunteered to help split the wood before I moved it under the roof. I wanted to split all of the peeled and cut logs before I moved them into the house. What a nice day itturned out to be and only 40 degrees. It looks like my timing will be good in that I want to get all of the wood up to the slab before the frost breaks and it turns into a quagmire. Who ever invented the reciprocating log splitter really pulled a rabbit out of the hat, we rented the splitter from Milaca Rental and it is the first time I have ever used a splitter that splits in both directions. OK it is still a lot of work but it is twice as fast, tomorrow I will be moving all of the split wood to the slab.
